Neck Assessment

Relief of pain, sharp shooting, numbness, & tingling changes in temp down medial arm on the ulnar side to the 5th, 4th, & 1/2 of the middle finger Scalene relief
Tested un-affective side first client is supine client is asked to place wrist on forehead hold for at least 30 sec communication about change in sensation, pain or discomfort Scalene relief
Pain &/or decreased strength, compare & contrast from left to right Trap Manual Resisted Test
Test unaffected side first,Client is asked to rotate their head away from the affected side Next client is asked to look up at the ceiling, Client is asked to raise the affected side's shoulder toward their ear Trap Manual Resisted Test
Radiating pain or other neurological signs in the arm of the affected side? Where the pain is, indicates which nerve root is involved. Pain that is local to the neck or shoulder indicates cervical facet joint irritation on the side bending tested Cervical compression test
Client is in a seated position, Practitioner stands behind the client, Carefully apply compression downward pressure compress the intervertebral foramen, the nerve root & the facet joints on that side. Cervical compression test
Relief of the client's pain. It releases the pressure from the intervertebral foramina reducing the pressure on the facet joint, & possible nerve. Cervical distraction
Client seated or supine position, grasp the client's head at the occiput & temporal areas. Return head to the anatomically neutral position, apply a slow traction in a superior direction maintaining traction for up to 30 seconds. Cervical distraction
