Chapter 1 Vocabulary

What is Interdependence? Mutual dependence of countries good from other places.
What is a Region? An area with it's own unifying characteristics.
What is a Globe? The world placed on a smaller scale.
What is a map? The world placed flat on a smaller scale.
What is Google Earth? The world placed on the internet on a smaller scale.
What is Google Maps? The world placed flat on the internet on a smaller scale.
What is Mercator Projection? A map that shows direction accurately.
What is Inturrupted Projection? A map with correct sizes of landmasses by cutting out oceans.
What is Peters Projection? Almost the same as Mercator Projection but has disort shapes of land masses.
What is Robinson Projection? Today's maps that are very accurate.
What is Political Maps? shows the borders that divide nations from one another.
What is Physical Maps? features such as mountains, lakes, and rivers.
What is Topography? physical features of a place or region.
What is Vegetation? the plant of life of a place or region.
What is Mountains? high, steep, rugged land that rises above the surrounding land.
What is Elevation? Height above sea level.
What is hills? areas of raised land, but they are lower and less steep than mountains.
What is Plains? large areas of fairly level or gently rolling land.
What is Plateaus? large areas of high, flat or gently rolling land.
What is Climate? average weather a place has over a period of 20-30 years.
