Chapter 1 - Investigating the Past

1.1 What is Ancient history? -VERY OLD HISTORY -Involves investigating what happened in the past and why -Concerns the distant past, from the earliest of humans through the first great civilizations.
1.2 What does an Archeologist do? -A person who digs up the past by looking at artifacts.
1.2 What is an artifact? -An object made or used by people in the past.
1.2 What does a Historian do? -A person who records the past. -They are most interested in the last few thousand years, when people began leaving written records. -They study all kinds of artifacts and documents
1.2 What does a Geographer do? -A person who maps the past. -They study natural features of the earth, such as water, landforms, plants & animals
1.3 Why is cave art a treasure from the past? -Because they can help answer many questions about how ancient humans lived -Provides clues about what life was like in prehistoric times
1.3 What does "Prehistoric" mean? -Before written history
1.3 Explain what "Cave Painting" are... -Found all over the world -They give information about humans & animals from that time -Many draw deep inside caves, some are drawn on ceilings (used scaffolds to reach) -Artifacts are often found inside caves
