Roger Williams Founded the first Baptist church in America, against taking Native Americans land, founded Rhode Island in 1636
Anne Hutchinson Believed a person could worship the Lord without the help of a church, a minister or a bible. in 1638 she fled to Rhode Island.
King Philip's War 1675-1676- puritans fought against Indians over land. king Philip is english name for Metacom, leader of Wampanoag, W lost the war and a lot of land.
Peter Stuyvesant New governor of New Netherland, 1624. Bad manner caused him to lose his place and to retire to his farm in 1664.
patroon a person who brought 50 settlers to New Netherland. Given large land grant and many privledges.
Duke of York Brother of King Charles II who drove the Dutch out of New Netherland in 1664.
proprietary colony a colony with a single owner.
William Penn Large landowner in America who became a Quaker and was attacked for his beliefs; Given piece of land by King Charles II that became Pennsylvania.
Quaker a person who believed all people should live in peace and harmony; accepted different religions and ethnic groups.
Royal colony a colony ruled by governors appointed by the king.
James Oglethorpe 1732- founded Georgia as a refube for debtors,set strict rules for colonists, the king made it a royal colony in 1752
