Scientific Method

something which is gained by carefully identifying and describing properties using the five senses or scientific tools. scientific observation
observations that use numbers or measurements or observations that make relative comparisons, such as more than, all less than, few, or none. quantitative observation
observations that are made using only the senses and refer to specific properties. qualitative observations
an explanation or interpretation of an observation based on prior experiences or supported by observations made in the investigation. inference
a way to organize data collected in an experiment so that it can be easily read. They are often organized in columns and rows. data table
a visual that is used to compare data. These are often used for qualitative observations. bar graphs
a visual that is often used to compare data. These ae often used to show how quantitative data changes over time. line graph
The variable that the experimenter purposely changes in the experiment. What the experimenter is testing. Manipulated or Independent Variable
The variable that changes as a result of a change in the Independent or Manipulated Variable. Responding or Dependent Variable
