What is it used for? Used to assess Thoracic Outlet Symptoms caused by the anterior scalene muscle
Client presents what symptoms? Pain, numbness and tingling down the medial side of the arm to the 5th, 4th, and 1/2 of the 3rd finger
Positive Sign The test is considered positive by a diminished radial pulse pulse or recurrance of symptoms
Techniques Used/Muscles to Work Anterior, middle and posterior scalenese, pectoralis minor
Name of assessent Anterior neck flexion
What is it used for? To assess the weakness of deep neck flexors
Client presenting symptoms? Neck pain, decreased range of motion in cervical area, head forward posture and head aches
Positive sign If chin comes forward as the first movement
Techniques used/muscles to work Strip longus colli, trigger point therapy, client actively engage subocipitals and SCM
Name of assessment Cervical compression/distraction
What is it used for? Compression-to assess for compression of a cervical nerve root or root irritation. Distraction-to relieve pressure on the cervical nerve roots
Client presenting symptoms? Radiating pain and sharp shooting pain
Positive sign Compression-radiating pain in the arm on of the affected side. Distraction-relief of pain
Techniques used/muscles to work Compression-client sits, LMT pushes top of head down from behind client. Distraction, client sits, LMT stands behind client and pulls head up grasphing at occiput and temporal areas.
Name of assessment Scalene cramp
What is it used for? Assess for trigger points in scalenes
Client presenting symptoms? Decrease in range of motion in the cervical area, pain shooting down to thumb and 1st finger
Positive sign Cramping of the scalene muscles on the side that the chin is tucked into
Techniques used/muscles to work Strip scalenes, cross fiber friction at insertion points of scalenes, pin and stretch with client engagement, myo

What is it used for? Assess for trigger points in scalenes
Client presenting symptoms Sharp shooting pain, numbness or tingling down the arm into the 5th, 4th and 3rd finger
Positive sign Relief of pain
