chloroplast Part of a plant cell that captures energy from the sun to produce food.
cell wall Rigid structure that protects the cell and gives its shape.
mitosis The process by which one cell divides, forming two new cells.
diffusion The process of how materials move through a cell from a region where there is a large amount of a substance to where there is a small amount.
nucleus Directs or controls all of the cell's activities.
cell membrane Controls what substances enter and leave the cell.
vacuole A sac that stores water, food, waste and other material.
bacteria cells Type of cells that do not contain a nucleus.
lysosome Small, round structures found in animal cells that contain chemicals to break down food particles.
mitochondrion Rod-shaped structures that produce most of the energy for the cell.
endoplasmic reticulum Passageways that carry proteins and other materials from one part of the cell to another.
ribosome Small grainlike bodies that produce proteins.
golgi body Receive proteins and other materials, package them and distribute them to other parts of the cell.
