Canker sores (aphthous ulcers) small sores that develop in the oral cavity, usually have a yellow or gray center surrounded by a red border.
Esophagitis inflammation of the esophagus; usually accompanied by heartburn
Gastritis inflammation of the stomach mucosa
Gastroenteritis inflammation of stomach and intestines, leads to pain, nausea, diarrhea
Peptic ulcers ulcers in the mucosa lining the stomach and duodenum
Crohn disease (regional enteritis) autoimmune disorder involving inflammation of the mucosa, primarily in the ileum of small intestine, but also in large intestine
Diverticulosis saclike bulges (diverticula) or herniations, usually in the muscular wall of the descending colon
Irritable bowel syndrome recurrent abdominal pain, cramps, and alternating diarrhea & constipation
Hepatitis A inflammation of liver, transmitted by fecal-oral route, eating contaminated food, does not cause chronic disease or carrier state.
Hepatitis B inflammation of liver, transmitted by body fluids or blood products, 10%-15% result in chronic disease and carrier state.
Hepatitis C inflammation of liver, transmitted by blood products & contaminated needles, responsible for 50% of chronic hepatitis & produces carrier state.
Jaundice yellow coloration of the skin resulting from accumulation of bilirubin in the blood
Cirrhosis of the liver long-term necrosis of the liver, destruction of hepatocytes and accumulation of scar tissue
Cholecystitis (cholecyst=gall bladder) inflammation of the gallbladder, indigestion, vomiting, fever, tenderness in upper right quadrant of abdomen
Appendicitis inflammation of the vermiform appendix
Anorexia nervosa eating disorder, self starvation, and intense abhorrence for obesity
Bulimia nervosa eating disorder, binge eating followed by self-induced vomiting
Peritonitis inflammation of the peritoneum (lining of the abdominal cavity)
Hernia protrusion of an organ through an abnormal opening in a tissue of the body.
Hiatal hernia herniation through the esophageal hiatus
Median/epigastric hernia herniation through the linea alba (tendon at the center of the rectus abdominis)
Inguinal hernia herniation through the inguinal ligament (connecting the ASIS to the pubic spine)
Umbilical hernia herniation in the umbilical regional
Femoral hernia herniation through the femoral ring into the femoral canal (canal that contains the femoral artery)
Heartburn pain or burning sensation in the lower region of the chest
Diarrhea frequent passage of watery stools
Constipation difficulty in passing a stool.
