Graves disease hyperthyroidism, autoimmune disorder, leads to increased metabolism, weight loss, nervousness, fatigue, insomnia, tachycardia, protruding eyeballs.
Myxedema hyposecretion of thyroid hormone in *adults*, fatigue, slowing mental & physical activities, swelling around eyes, cold intolerance, coarsening of skin
Cretinism hyposecretion of thyroid hormone in *children*, swelling around eyes, coarsening of skin, variable amounts of retarded brain & bone development
Goiter enlargement of the thyroid gland, cause by iodine deficiency
Diabetes mellitus group of disorders involving the pancreas & defective insulin response/utilization
Insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus type 1, juvenile-onset, deficiency of insulin production, 10%-20% of diabetes cases
Non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus type 2, adult-onset, insulin resistance & decreased insulin production
Cushing disease hypercortisolism from adrenal cortex, leads to obesity, weakness, fatigue, mentrual abnormalities, hypertension, rounded 'moon' face
Addison disease hypocortisolism, leads to weakness, fatigue, hypotension, nausea, decreased stress tolerance, bronzing of skin
