effects of cold 1 may reduce temperature up to 45 minutes
effects of cold 2 (blood - 7) local vasoconstriction, decr. in blood flow, incr. in bld viscosity, reduce bleeding, decrease in metabolism, decr. in leukocyte migration resulting in decr. in inflam.
effects of cold 3 (4) decr. in inflam., swelling, edema, bleeding
effects of cold 4 (pain) pain decr. by blocking pain transmission
effects of cold 5 (muscle) muscle spasm decr. because of reduced m. spindle firing
effects of cold 6 a brief cold stimulates
cold application 2 ice baths: immerse joint/limb/body in ice chips
cold application 3 ice cups: paper cup w. ice used to rub over area
cold application 4 gels: applied to area. chemical response.
