fitzpatrick scale review

Skin TypeBurns or TansCharacteristics
Type I always burns, never tans very fair skin, red or blonde hair, blue eyes, likely freckled skin
Type II burns easily, tans minimally fair skin, blue, green, or hazel eyes; blonde or red hair
Type III sometimes burns, gradually tans very common coloring; still fair, but with any color hair and eyes
Type IV rarely burns, always tans typical mediterranean caucasian skin; medium to heavy pigmentation
Type V very rearely burns, always tans middle-eastern skin types, not sun sensitive
Type VI almost never burns black skin; generally never sun sensitive
