Greek cardinal virtues Elements of Greek arete
Christian Virtues Ideals of morality based on Christian principles, meekness, compassion, love for one’s neighbor, etc., that people should lead lives of common decency and public uprightness
Morality A system of conduct based on beliefs of right and wrong
Liberty An ideal of freedom from oppression, tyranny, and government, allowing individuals to pursue happiness through positive action
Modernism A cultural movement embracing human empowerment and rejecting traditionalism as outdated. Rationality, industry, and technology were cornerstones of progress and human achievement
Postmodernism A skeptical paradigm that critiques the ideals of modernism such as materialism and rational purpose and questions the true objectivity of viewpoints
