essential oils are able to penetrate in to the skin and the blood stream because the molecular structure is relatively small
essential oils can have a certain type of effect on the body this is known as a therapeutic effect
essential oils can be more powerful when mixed this is known as a synergy
essential oils can be used in many different ways for example massage oil burners inhalation compresses
it is important to know the Latin name of the oils to ensure services are both safe and effective
there are many plants with similar names but very different effects
knowing the oils different names can help you to identify an oils quality and where it comes from
like wine the oils what will vary from year to year quality and price

if essential oils are stored incorrectly this can lead to evaporation which causes loss of therapeutic properties fragrance and colour
the ideal storage environment for aromatherapy oils is cool dark away from sun light bottles should be airtight and made with dark colours
bottles should always be well labelled why is this to avoid misuse and ensure they are in date because some oils have a shorter shelf life than others
aromatherapy oils should always be purchased from a reputable supplier who has a quick turnaround in stock

solvent extraction uses solvents such as benzene petroleum or acetone
the use of essential oils can present potential hazards to both the client and therapist if used incorrectly they risks can be toxicity, irritation and sensitization
