prone face downward
superior upper/above/nearer to head
inferior below/nearer to feet
anterior front side (ventral)
posterior back side (dorsal)
medial toward middle
lateral off to side/away from midline
proximal toward trunk of body
distal away from trunk
superficial near surface
deep far from surface
sagital plane divedes into right and left halves
midsagital divides into left/right sides evenly
frontal /coronal plane divides into front and back
transverse/cross section divide into upper and lower sections
