Ancient Greece

What is the Parthenon? A masterpiece of architectural design and craftsmanship. It was built to honor Athena, the goddess of wisdom and the protector of Athens.
What were the two types of drama the Greeks wrote? Tragedy and Comedy
The Persian Wars, were 3 wars fought between Athens and Persia
What is the Delian League? Athens persuaded 200 city-states of Greece to form a system of alliance - in which Athens was the leader.
What led Sparta to become a military state? The danger of a helot (spartan slave) revolt.
What type of government did Athens have? democracy
Helots were Spartan slaves
What is a Phalanx? A fearsome formation in which soldiers stood side by side, each holding a spear in one hand and a shield in the other. It became the most powerful fighting force in the Ancient world.
Greece is land surrounded by water on 3 sides. This is called a Peninsula
What are Greece's 2 major city-states? Athens and Sparta
What type of government does Sparta have? Totalitarian
What is a totalitarian government? A government that has total control over the people. The people have NO say.
