Origin - Psoas Major transverse processes, vertebral bodies & inter vertebral discs of T12-L5
Insertion - Psoas Major Lesser trochanter
Action - Psoas Major Flex hip joint, lateral rotation of femur
Origin - Iliacus Iliac fossa, covers anterior surface of sacroiliac joint
Insertion - Iliacus lesser trochanter via iliopsoas tendon
Action - Iliacus flex hip, laterally rotate femur
Origin - Rectus femoris S.H. - AIIS R.H. - upper edge of acetabulum
Insertion - Rectus femoris Base of patella then goes via patellar ligament to the tibial tuberosity
Action - Rectus femoris flex hip, extend knee
Origin - Piriformis anterior surface of sacrum, sacrotuberous lig
Insertion - Piriformis superior medial surface of greater trochanter
Action - Piriformis Lateral rotation some abduction, helps hold head of femur in acetabulum
Origin - Gemellus Superior Ischial spine
Insertion - Gemellus Superior Med. surface of greater trochanter, tendon fuses with tendons of obturator internus and gemellus inferior
Action - Gemellus Superior Lateral rotation some abduction, helps hold head of femur in acetabulum
Origin - Obturator Internus 1. onternal surface of obturator membrane, covers obturator foramen. 2. surrounding bone, passes through via lesser sciatic foramen posterior to neck of femur(all 6 mm)
Insertion - Obturator Internus medial surface greater trochanter
Action - Obturator Internus Lateral rotation some abduction, helps hold head of femur in acetabulum.
Origin - Gemellus Inferior ischial tuberosity
Insertion - Gemellus Inferior medial surface of greater trochanter, tendon fused to Obturator Internus & Gemellus Superior
Action - Gemellus Inferior same as piriformis, abducts, laterally rotates an holds head of femur in acetabulum
Origin - Obturator Externus external obturator membrane and surrounding bone
Insertion - Obturator Externus medial surface of greater trochanter, tendon passes posteriorly to neck of femur.
Action - Obturator Externus Lateral rotator only!!!
Origin - Quadratus Femoris Ischial tuberosity
Insertion - Quadratus Femoris Quadrate tubercle on posteriior femur - intertrochantric crest
Action - Quadratus Femoris lateral rotator
Origin - Gracilis Body & inferior ramus of pubic bone
Insertion - Gracilis pes anserine
Action - Gracilis hip adductor, flexes knee
Origin - Pectineus superior ramus of pubis
Insertion - Pectineus pectineal line of femur
Action - Pectineus adducts and flexes hip
Origin - Adductor Longus body of pubis
Insertion - Adductor Longus linea aspera
Action - Adductor Longus lateral rotator, flexes & adducts hip
Origin - Adductor Brevis inferior ramus of pubis
Insertion - Adductor Brevis Linea Aspira, posterior femur
Action - Adductor Brevis adduction and flexion
