organism a living thing
habitat an environment that provides the things an organism needs to live, grow, and reproduce
biotic factor the LIVING parts of an organism's habitat
abiotic factor NON-LIVING parts of an organism's habitat
photosynthesis the process in which plants make their own food using water, sunlight, and carbon dioxide
species a group of organisms that are physically similar and can mate with each other; they produce offspring that can also mate with each other
population all members of one species in a particular area
community all the different populations that live in an area together; to be considered a community, all organisms must be close enough to interact with each other (using same resources)
ecosystem the community of organisms along with their non-living surroundings
ecology study of how living things interact with each other and their environment
organization of ecosystem organism, which belongs to a population, the population belongs to a community, and the community and it's abiotic factors form an ecosystem
