Where is the sciatic nerve? starts at L5, goes deep to glutes and runs b/w piriformis & sup. gemellus, goes deep to thigh mm, and runs thru piceps femoris heads, splits above the knee and runs down crus to toes
What is piriformis syndrome? compression of piriformis on sciatic nerve
What does piriformis syndrome feel like to client? pain & numbness in hip, thigh, and crus
What causes hip popping/clicking of the hip? tight mm rolling over joint
What does sciatica mean? pain down the leg
What is the most common cause of sciatica? bone impingement b/w L4 & L5
Where do disc/facet injuries most commonly occur? b/w L4 & L5
What are some examples disc injuries? ruptured disc, bulging disc, slipped disc
What is the most common cause of sprains in the back? lift and twist, causing inflammation
What is subluxation of the lumbar vertebrae? movement of two bones out of place
Which ligaments provide extra support on sides of the knee? MCL & LCL
Which ligaments keep the tibia & femur from sliding ant/post off one another? ACL & PCL
What would tear the ACL? plant and twist
What would tear the PCL? hyperextension of knee, direct blow to anterior knee
What would tear the MCL? direct blow to lateral knee
What would tear the LCL? direct blow to medial knee
What would occur in a grade 1 strain? pain, slight tearing, sore mm
What would occur in a grade 2 strain? inflammation, possible bruising, lack of ROM, pain
What would occur in a grade 3 strain? bruising, pain, almost complete tear of mm tissue
What is hamstring syndrome? pinched sciatic nerve in hamstrings b/w heads of biceps femoris
What is periostitis? shin splints, where periostium pulls away from bone
What causes plantar fascitis? tight fascia on plantar side of foot
