A computer does what four things? accepts, processes, stores, and provides data
What is the brain of the computer? the microprocessor
Everything a computer does is overseen by what? The Cpu
When a CPU "fetches," it means? it gets software instructions from the memory telling what to do with the data
When a CPU "decodes," it means? determines what the instruction means
When a CPU "executes," it means? it performs storage media
Name the different types of storage media. floppy disk 1.444MB, CD 640MB, CD 17 GB, hard drive 80 GB, flash drive 8 GB
What is basic input/output system? (BIOS) a type of ROM that is used by the computer to establish when the computer first powers on
ROM is what? Read Only Memory, long term memory that the computer uses again, and again, doesn't accept new information
what is RAM? short term memory that accepts new information for temporary information
what is caching? storing of frequently used data in extremely fast RAM that connects directly to the CPU
What is virtual memory? space on a hard disk used to temporarily store data and swap it in and out of RAM as needed
what is flash memory? solid state storage device that retains data after a computer is turned off
what is the motherboard? main circuit board to which all of the other internal components connect
