Crystallization | the process of separating solid compounds from the solution in the form of crystals |
Weathering | the breaking down or dissolving of rocks and minerals on the surface of the Earth |
Sedimentation | process of particles settling to the bottom of a body of water |
Igneous | rocks or minerals formed by the cooling and hardening of magma or molten lava |
Sedimentary | rocks formed from pre-existing rocks or pieces of once-living organisms |
Metamorphic | rocks that are subjected to high heat, high pressure, or hot mineral-rich fluids |
Geologic features | the details of the Earth's surface, such as mountains, valleys, rivers, and lakes |
Tectonic plates | large slabs of rock that divide Earth's crust |
Boundary | types of connections between tectonic plates |
Trench | long, narrow depressions on the seafloor |
Fault lines | a long crack in the surface of the earth |
Cycle | sequences of events or processes that repeat themselves |
Evaporation | process that changes a liquid to a gas |
Condensation | when a gas turns to a liquid |
Precipitation | water released from clouds in the form of rain, freezing rain, sleet, snow, or hail |
Transpiration | process by which plants remove excess water through the surface of leaves |
Surface runoff | when there is more water than land can absorb |
Mineral | a naturally occurring inorganic element or compound |
Groundwater | water that exists underground beneath the land surface |
Geologic process | natural forces that shape the physical planet (earthquakes, volanoes, etc.) |
