Expulsion The process of forcing someone to leave a place.
Jewish Diaspora The Romans killed thousands of Jews & forced many others to leave Jerusalem. This scattering of Jewish people to different parts of the world is known as the Jewish Diaspora.
Canaan Land bordering the Mediterranean Sea promised by God to Abraham & his descendants forever. (The Promised Land)
Judaism Monotheistic religion practiced by the Israelites. Followers are called Jews. Emphasis on individual worth & personal responsibility.
Abraham God told him to move his family from Mesopotamia to Canaan. God promised this land to Abraham & his descendants forever.
Moses Israelite who with God’s help leads the Israelites out of slavery In Egypt in an event called the Exodus. Receives the Ten Commandments from God.
The Tanakh The Israelites recorded their beliefs and history in the Hebrew Bible or Tanakh. This is the sacred text of Judaism.

Solomon The 3rd king of Israel who built the First Temple (Solomon’s Temple) in Jerusalem. Son of David.
Jerusalem The capital city of Israel; established by David.
Babylonian Captivity Chaldean King Nebuchadnezzar forced thousands of Jews to leave Jerusalem & live in Babylon. They are later released by the Persians.
Israelites Group of people from Southwest Asia who practiced Judaism.
