Thesis states the main idea about a topic and previews the supporting points that are included in body paragraphs.

Topic Sentence clearly states the main idea of the paragraph
Evidence or Supporting Details provides additional information to support the main idea (evidence from text, examples, facts)
Elaboration Explains WHY you chose the evidence and its IMPORTANCE (written in your own words)
Closing Sentence restates the main idea in a new way
Introduction paragraph you will need to grab the reader's attention, give background information and state your thesis
Body paragraph you will need to present your ideas and expand on them with evidence and elaboration
Conclusion paragraph you will need to reword your thesis, summary of points, and give thought-provoking question or call to action
Transition words are special words or phrases used in essays to help move smoothly from one idea to another. They act like bridges between different parts of your writing, making it easier for readers to follow your thoughts.
