What is a chemical reaction? interaction between 2 or more atoms that occurs as a result of activity between electrons in their outermost energy levels
What is an ionic bond? formed by transfer of electrons; strong force that binds positively and negatively charged ions together
What is a covalent bond? Formed by sharing of electron pairs between atoms
What is extracellular matrix (ECM)? Fluid environment of the body- complex, nonliving material between cells in a tissue. Consists of water, proteins, and proteoglycans,
What do different tissue types determine? Structure and function of organs and systems
What are the 5 main functions of epithelial tissue? Protection, sensory function, secretion, absorption, and excretion
What is the general function of connective tissues? Connects, supports, and protects
Functions of the skin? Protection, surface film, sensation, flexibility, excretion, hormone production, immunity, homeostasis of body temperature
What are the 5 structural bones? Long boness. short bones, flat bones, irregular bones, and sesamoid bones
What does a compact bone contain? Many cylindar shaped structural units called osteons. Osteons permits delivery of nutrients and removal of waste products
What does a cancellous bone contain? Contains trabeculae. Where nutrients are delivered and waste products removed by diffusion
Why is calcium critical for bones? The bone is the storage of 98% of the body's calcium levels. It helps maintain calcium levels.
