Indian Nationalist Party he oldest political party in India – founded in 1885, it played a major role in India’s independence movement against British rule it is democratic in philosophy - also known as the Indian National Congress.
Bangladesh Section of India formerly known East Pakistan.
Civil Disobedience a deliberate and public refusal to obey a law considered unjust.
Indian Independence series of events with the ultimate goal of ending British rule in India from 1947-1957.
Indira Gandhi Indian political leader, prime minister of India 1966-1977 - Assassinated by political rivals.
Jawaharlal Nehru a close associate of Gandhi who supported western-style industrialization.
Mohandas Gandhi political and spiritual leader during India’s struggle with Great Britain for independence, an advocate of passive resistance.
Pakistan Section of India that separated due to Muslim majority - Once called West Pakistan.
Passive Resistance peaceful resistance to a government by fasting or refusing to cooperate.
Sri Lanka Section of India once called Ceylon.
