Carthage | powerful city in north Africa; Rome's rival |
Gaul | known today as "France" |
Mark Antony | Julius Caesar's closest friend; wanted to rule after Caesar's death |
Octavian | Julius Caesar's grandnephew; chosen by Caesar as his heir |
Pergamum | Rome's first overseas province |
Pompeii | city buried by Mt. Vesuvius's eruption in A.D. 79 |
