Dangers of Dust

TermDefinition
aerosol A tiny solid or liquid particle suspended in air or as a gas that can be natural or artificial.
computer model A program that runs on a computer that creates a model, or simulation, of a real-world feature, phenomenon or event.
jet stream A fast-flowing, high-altitude air current.
Karakoram A group of parallel mountain ranges that run ~300 miles across Asia, forming the watershed between Central and South Asia.
runoff The rainwater that runs off of land into rivers, lakes and the seas.
seedling The initial plant that sprouts leaves and roots after emerging from a seed.
Tibetan plateau The planet’s highest plateau, and a cold, snowy region in southwestern China.
soot Soot, or black carbon, is the oily residues of incompletely burned materials from fossil fuels. Soot particles are very small and can get stuck deep in your lungs if inhaled
Ural Mountains, or Urals A range of mountains that runs through west-central Russia and has in the past served as a physical boundary between Europe to the west and Asia to the east.
climate The weather conditions that typically exist in one area, in general, or over a long period.
