Depression A period of low business activity and high unemployment
Communism A political system where there are no social classes,no private ownership of industries and farms, as well as a sharing of work and goods produced
Dictator ruler who has complete power over a country, especially one whose power has been gained by force
Totalitarianism a political system in which ordinary people have no power and are completely controlled by the government
Violate break or fail to comply with a rule or formal agreement.
Appeasement The policy of giving into someone's demands in order to keep the peace.
Scapegoat someone who is blamed for something bad that happens, even if it is not their fault
Civilian anyone who is not a member of the military forces or the police
Genocide An attempt to kill all the people of a certain race or religious group
Pact An agreement between countries; especially to help each other or to stop fighting
Anti-Semitism Hatred and prejudice against Jews
Fascism a political belief that focuses on extreme nationalism and a dictatorship of one leader with only one party
Cencor to examine books, films, letters, etc... to remove anything that is considered offensive, morally harmful, or politically dangerous.
Collectivization creating large government-controlled farms made up of smaller farms, usually found in a Communist society
Command Economy An economic system in which the government makes all economic decisions
Suppress to stop people from doing something by using force- especially if they are opposing the government
Affluent having a lot of money or owning a lot of things
Disarmament when a country reduces the number of weapons it has, or the size of its military
