manorialism A large house or estate
serfs an agricultural laborer bound under the feudal system to work on their lord's estate.
chivalry the medieval knightly system with its religious, moral, and social code.
abbot a man who is the head of an abbey of monks.
crusades each of a series of medieval military expeditions made by Europeans to the Holy Land in the 11th, 12th, and 13th centuries.
Feudalism A political system based on a social pyramid from serfs to kings
vassal a person in the Middle Ages who received protection and land from a lord in return for loyalty and service.
.heretics a person believing in or practicing religious heresy.
common law the part of English law that is derived from custom and judicial precedent rather than statutes. Often contrasted with statutory law.
magna carta The Magna Carta (“Great Charter”) is a document guaranteeing English political liberties that was drafted at Runnymede, a meadow by the River Thames, and signed by King John on June 15, 1215, under pressure from his rebellious barons.
