Mycenaean Civilization Migrants from Europe, India, and Southwest Asia settled on the Greek mainland around 2000 B.C. They were later known as Mycenaeans. Mycenae was located in southern Greece–surrounded by a protective wall more than 20 feet thick.
Alexander The Great King of Macedonia empire who conquered many different empires. He expanded his empire from Egypt to Greece to Asia.
Philip II King of Macedonia Famous for perfecting the phalanx. A phalanx was a group of warriors who stood close together in a square, each with a spear.
Alexander Gets Angry After Philip died, Thebes, another Greek city, rebelled against Alexander. Alexander made an example of Thebes by destroying the city and enslaving its people.
Sparta At sometimes, there were as many as seven enslaved people for every one Spartan Sparta had the most powerful army in Greece
Athens Athens was ruled by few, but poor citizens complained about not having a say in community affairs so something had to be done.
Hellenistic Kingdoms When Alexander died, he did not have an obvious heir. Three generals ended up fighting for and winning power. One became king of Macedonia, another of Egypt, and the third of Greece.
The Peloponnesian War A war fought between Athens and Sparta, ending with Sparta winning.
