Experimental Design

Vocabulary for our Experimental Design Cornell Doodle Notes

TermDefinition
Variable Any part of an experiment
Quantitive Dealing with numbers or amounts
Qualitative Dealing with things that aren't expressed with numbers
Independent Variable A variable that isn't changed by any part of the experiment
Dependent Variable The thing that is affected during the experiment
Manipulated Variable The thing that changes to show its affect in the experiment
Responding Variable The thing that is measured to show the outcome of the experiment.
Precise Being exact or very accurate
Accurate Closeness to something
Valid Sounding reasonable or true
Reliable how consistently you measure something
Empirical Evidence Data & Observations that are collected through scientific processes
Pseudoscience A set of beliefs that conclusions aren't based on scientific evidence
Results The product of the experimental trials
Conclusion If your hypothesis is correct or not.
Hypothesis What you predict will happen based on your experiment
Constant The thing that stays the same
Control The thing that doesn't change /unaffected by other variables
