5 types of poems

Poems

TermDefinition
Lyric subjective, reflective poetry that reveals the poet's thoughts and feelings to create a single, unique impression. (this is the most common type)
Narrative tells a story, often making use of the voices of a narrator, characters, and a plot as well.
Ode poem praising or glorifying an event or individual, describing nature intellectually as well as emotionally.
Elegy a formal lament for the death of a particular person or something bad that happened/or a solemn meditation
Ballad Basically a narrative poem but is written in rhymes and meters. They are meant to be sung and will have musical elements, like refrains and choruses
