Nobility -High social class -Mostly inherited -Often related to royalty
Clergy People who work for the church
Bourgeoisie -Middle class -Educated -Lawyers, doctors, bankers, etc.
Peasant a poor farmer who owns or rents a small amount of land
Delegate someone who has been elected to speak for or make decisions for a group
Assembly a group of people who are elected to make decisions or laws for others
Rumor information that is passed from one person to another and which may or may not be true
Fortress a large strong building used for defending an important place
Oath a formal and very serious promise
Oppression -when someone treats a group of people unfairly or cruelly and prevents them from having the same rights as other people
Authorize to give official permission for something
Radical someone who has ideas that are very new and different, and against what most people think or believe
Guillotine a piece of equipment used to cut off the heads of criminals
Tribunal a type of court that is given official authority to deal with a particular situation or problem
Sans-Culottes Urban workers who supported the revolution
Jacobin A “radical” supporter of the French Revolution
Girondin A “moderate” supporter of the French Revolution
