1. Was Ancient Greece one united country? | No, Ancient Greece was made up of several isolated communities. |
2. What is a monarchy? | In a monarchy, one individual had all the governing power, and is elected, or inherits the crown. |
3. What is an oligarchy? | In an oligarchy, multiple wealthy individuals who own lots of land, rule the city-state. |
4. What is a tyranny? | In a tyranny, a single person takes power by force. They are usually unlawful rulers. |
5. What is a democracy? | In a democracy, all the citizens share the power. Decisions are usually made through voting. |

1. Were Athens and Sparta similar in their ways of life? | No, Athens and Sparta were completely different in almost every way. |
2. How did Athens and Sparta's geography affect them? | Athens was near the sea, resulting in them developing relationships with other city-states. Sparta was isolated, and believed contact with other city-states would weaken them. |
3. What was the Council of 500 in Athens? | A group of 500 citizens that form a council responsible for doing the job of a government. |
4. How did Athens and Sparta's economies differ? | Athens relied on trade, while Sparta relied on farming and conquering their neighbors. |
5. What was the Council of Elders in Sparta? | A group of 30 Spartans (2 kings and 28 nobles) who made all the important governing decisions. |

1. Who inspired the Athenians the rebuild Athens? | Pericles inspired the people of Athens to rebuild their home. He also promoted the construction of public spaces and the growth of Greek culture. |
2. What did the Greeks believe about their gods and goddesses? | Ancient Greeks believed that each god had power over a specific area of life. The gods and goddesses were part of everyday life. |
3. Were Greek temples used as a place to worship? | No, religious ceremonies were held outside of the temple. The temples were built as dwellings for the god they honor. |
4. Who was one of the most influential philosophers from Athens? | Socrates was one of the most influential Athenian philosopher. He constantly questioned the work around him and his student taught Aristotle. |
5. What were the two main times that ancient Greeks competed in athletic events? | The Panathenaic Games, which took place during a festival that honored Athena, and the Olympics which took place every four years and honored Zeus. |
