Cone of uncertainty The usual picture of a hurricane forecast on a map
seismometer An instrument used to measure the shaking from an earthquake
Monitor Make measurements and observations over time to keep track of something
Percursor An event occurs before a natural hazard can help in predicting that the hazard event will occur
Storm Surge An abnormal rise in sea level along the coast caused by a storm
Magnitude A measurement of the energy or strength of a natural hazard event.General the stronger the hazard, the greater it's magnitude
Saffir-Simpson Scale A system for classifying the intensity of a hurricane based on it's wind speed
Severity Extent of damage or loss from, a natural hazard event
Intensity Type of damage from a natural hazard
Seismic Resistance Construction - A certain type of material or structure is able to withstand the impact from a Earthquake
Levees A dam which lowers the extent of submerged water
Mercalli Scale This scale indicates or displays the intensity of an Earthquake
Enhanced Fujita Scale This scale calculates tornado wind speed
Volcanic Explosive index The index ranges a volcanic eruption from zero to eight
Radar/dopler A mechanism used to track the height and location of a storm
