Chemical Reactions

QuestionAnswer
What is balance? Occurs when the number and type of atoms on the reactant's and product's sides of a chemical equation are equal.
What is chemical change? A change in substance that involves the breaking and reforming of chemical bonds to make new substance or substances.
what is chemical equation? Chemical formulas and symbols that represents a chemical reaction.
What is chemical reaction? The breaking of bonds to form a new substances(called the products).
What is coefficient? A number placed in front of a chemical formula to make the number of atoms on each side of a chemical equation equal.
What is conservation of atoms? Principle that states the number of each type of atom on the reactant's side must be equal to the number of each type of atom on the product's side of a chemical equation.
What is conservation of mass? x
What is excess reactant? A reactant that is not completely used up.
What is limiting reactant? The reactant thaqt is used up first in a chemical reaction.
What is percent yield? The actual yield of product in a chemical reaction divided by the predicted yield, and multiplied by one hundred to get a percentage.
What is physical change? A change in the physical properties of a substancee.
What is polymer? a large molecule that is composed of repeating smaller molecules called subunits or monomers.
What is product? Substances that are produced in a chemical reaction from reactants.
What is reactant? A substance that enters into and is altered in the course of a chemical reaction.
What is physical property? The state, size, or shape of a substance.
What is Law of conservation mass? Total mass of the products of a reaction is equal to the total mass of the reactants.
What is balanced equation Shows the ratios of the number of molecules of reactants needed to make a certain number of molecules of products.
Whaqt is subscript? Tells you the numberof each type of atom in the substance.
What is actual yeied? Determined by simply measuring the mass, in grams, of the product produced in tthe actual reaction.
What is predicted yield? Can be determined from the balanced equation for the reaction.
What is ratio? The numerical relationship between two objects or substances.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
