The Stone Age

The Stone Age | the historical period characterized by the production of tools from stone and other organic material such as bone, wood, or horn |
Paleolithic Period | the early stages of the Stone Age lasting about 2.5 million years, when primitive stone tools were used |
Mesolithic Period | the middle stage of the Stone Age, approximately 10,000 BC to 6000 BC |
Neolithic Period | the late stage of the Stone Age, approximately 8000 BC to 3000 BC (this is the period when only Homo sapiens lived) |
hominins | erect primate mammals that include recent humans together with extinct ancestral and related forms |
Homo habilis | lived from approximately 2.5 million to 1.5 million years ago and were an early form of hominin and the first to use stone tools |
Homo erectus | means "upright man" and lived from approximately 1.6 million to 250,000 BC |
Homo sapiens | the primate species to which modern humans belong; humans regards as a species who lived from approximately 4000 BC to present time |
hunter-gatherer | a human living in a society in which most or all food is obtained by foraging (collecting wild plants and pursuing wild animals) |
archaeologist | a person who studies human history and prehistory through the excavation of sites and the analysis of artifacts and other physical remains |
domestication | the process of taming an animal or the cultivation of a plant for food |
climate change | a change in global or regional climate patterns |
