The small intestine:

The long and winding tube

QuestionAnswer
What is a Membrane? A Membrane is a sheet-like structure on the outside of a cell. Molecules use passive and active transport to diffuse through the membrane. It is semi-permeable.
What is Diffusion? Diffusion is the movement of molecules, through air, water and membrane, from a greater concentration to a lesser concentration.
What is Passive Transport? Passive Transport is when a molecule can pass through a membrane without using any energy from the cell so the cell has energy for active transport. There is no energy needed in this process.
What is a Specialization? A Specialization is what the organ does as its job in the body. Each enzyme only digests one type of food.
What is the Small Intestine? It is a 2.5 cm in diameter, approximately 6m long liquid-filled tube. It is a major part of digestion, it absorbs nutrients from chyme as it moves from the stomach to the large intestine. Fats, proteins and carbs get digested. Neutralizes acids.
What is Active Transport? Active transport is when a molecule is pulled through the membrane using energy from its cell because it is too large for passive transport.
What is Pancreatic Juice? Pancreatic juice is a non-acid digestive juice that comes from the pancreas packet with enzymes that help digest carbs, fats, and proteins.
2.5 cm is... 2.5 centimeters is the diameter of the small intestine.
What is the Gallbladder? An organ that stores bile that was made in the liver.
What is a Pyloric Sphincter? A Pyloric Sphincter is a circular muscle that opens in the center to allow chyme into the small intestine. A gateway from the stomach to the small intestine.
What is Bile? Bile is a greenish brown fluid that is made in the liver. It aids digestion and is stored in the gallbladder.
