QuestionAnswer
Matter Anything that has mass and takes up space.
Mass A measure of how much matter there is in an object.
Volume The amount of space an object takes up.
Energy The ability to cause change.
Physical Properties A characteristic of matter that can be detected or measured with the senses.
Chemical Properties A description of how a kind of matter can change into other kinds of matter.
Solid Matter that has a definite volume.
Liquid Matter that has a definite volume but no definite shape.
Gas Matter that does not have a definite shape or volume.
Element A basic kind of matter made up of just one kind of atom.
Atom The smallest particle of an element that has the properties of that element.
Nucleus The cell structure that controls all of a cell's activities. The central part of an atom, made up of protons and neutrons.
Chemical Symbol A shorthand way of how a kind of atom can chande into other kinds of matter.
Compound A substance made up of two or more elements that are chemically joined or linked.
Chemical Formula A group of symbols that shows the elements that make up a compound.
Mixture Matter made up oftwo or more substances.
Solution A mixture in which the different particles of matter are spread evenly.
Alloy A solution of two or more metals, which has properties of its own.
