March Madness Vocab pt. 2
Question | Answer |

Tuition | the cost of college courses, (does not include books/ fees) in-state-less expensive, but must be resident out of state-more expensive |
Fees | course-related costs to attend college. (extra money that you pay for services, lab fees, materials associated with classes you take, etc.) |
Grants | financial help (money for college) that does NOT need to be paid back. |
Internships | a job in a student's area of study...sometimes paid, but usually not; working to gain experience. |
Work study | financial help (money for college) that you earn in exchange for working a job on campus. |
Scholarship | financial help (money for college) that you earn based on merit, such as playing a sport, or doing well in classes-NOT paid back. |
Financial aid | helps you pay for the cost of college. |
Loan | financial help (money for college) that you borrow from a bank or other sources that needs to be paid back. |
Student employment | working a job while you are a student; this is paid and can be on or off campus. |
Entrance exams | tests taken to get into college (SAT/ACT) which measure student's skills and help colleges decide who to accept. |
SAT | standardized college admission test-math, reading, and writing, which includes a written essay. |
ACT | standardized college admission test-english, math, reading, and science. (optional essay) |
Application | a form you fill out to get into college. |
Essay | essay that a college requires students to write/submit for their application...some colleges ask a certain question, others ask students to write about themselves; "personal statement" |
High School transcripts | printed copy of your high school records (classes, grades, service) sent out to colleges and evaluated during the application process. |
Extracurricular activities | clubs, sports, music, art, community service, etc you participate n outside of classes that is evaluated by colleges...well rounded? |
Letter of reccomendation | letter from a teacher, submitted with your college application that is taken into consideration by college evaluaters. |
