Habit 4 Study Guide

TermDefinition
Module 11: Balance Courage and Consideration
Win-Lose If you're high on courage and low on consideration, you're always trying to get ahead of others or be better than other people. Ex: "I'm going to beat you no matter what."
Lose-Win If you're low on courage and high on consideration, you're insecure. You're not brave enough to stick up for yourself. Ex: "I always get stepped on."
Lose-Lose If you can't win, nobody wins. You get revenge. Ex: "If I'm going down, you're going down with me."
Win-Win or No Deal You're ready to walk away before someone loses, including yourself. Balancing courage and consideration is the way to help others feel good and for you to feel good too. Ex: "We're going to win together."
Courage and Consideration Matrix High courage w/ Low consideration- Win-Lose Low courage w/ Low consideration- Lose-Lose High courage w/ High consideration- Win-Win or No Deal Low courage w/ High consideration- Lose-win
Lose-Win Matrix If you are in the bottom-right corner of the matrix, you're high in consideration but low in courage. You're eager to please and reluctant to stand up for yourself
Lose- Lose Matrix If you're in the bottom left corner, you're low in both courage and consideration. You don't care if other people lose, nor do you have courage to stand up for yourself.
Win-Lose Matrix If you're in the upper left corner, you're low in consideration and high in courage. You're bold but cold unsympathetic, inconsiderate, unkind.
Win-Win or No Deal Matrix If you're in the upper right corner where you want to be, high in both courage and consideration.
Module 12: Make Deposits in Other People's Emotional Bank Accounts (EBAs)
Find Out What a Deposit Is for other person What you think is a deposit for the other person may in fact be a withdrawl in their mind.
Do Small Acts of Kindness A second deposit is to treat people with kindness. The opposite- the withdrawl- is to be unkind, discourteous and disrespectful
Keep promises Nothing bankrupts the EBA faster- even if the accout has a huge balance
Keep confidences When someone shares something with you in confidence, keep it that way
Be Loyal to the Absent Avoid gossiping or backspitting
Set clear expectations Don't leave things fuzzy
Apologize If you're in the wrong, admit it now
Forgive Learn to forgive and to forget so that you don't keep hurting yourself the way you were hurt.
