Musc Soft Palate

muscleorigin/insertionaction
Palatoglossus (forming anterior faucial pillar) median palatine raphe/lateral surface of tongue elevates and arches tongue to soft palate, depressing soft palate toward tongue; forms sphincter, separating oral cavity from pharynx
Palatopharyngeus (posterior faucial pillar) soft palate/laryngopharynx ad thyroid cartilate moves palate posteroinferiorly and posterior pharyngeal wall anterosuperiorly to help close off nasopharynx; elevates pharynx
Levator veli palatine temporal bone/median palatine raphe raises soft palate to contact posterior pharyngeal wall to help close off nasopharynx
tensor veli talatine auditory tube and interior surface of sphenoid bone/becomes tendon near hamulus, forms palatine aponeurosis and inserts at median palatine raphe tenses and slightly lowers soft palate. 'pop ears'
muscle of the uvula tissue projection inf and post from soft palate helps close off nasopharynx
