French Revolution Rebellion of French people starting in 1789 against the old regime class system and the monarchy.
Emigres Noble who fled France during the French revolution.
Declaration of the Right of Man Document issued by National Assembly during the revolution.
Radicals Person who favored drastic change.
Counter-Revolution Movement opposing a revolution and attempt to restore the previous government.
Suffrage The right to vote.
Jacobin A member of the most radical group in the French National Convention.
Girondist One of the moderate members in the French National Convention.
Reign of Terror Period from 1793-1794 when brutal measures when enforced to remove enemies and critics of the French Revolutionary Republic.
Nationalism Feeling of devotion or pride in one's own country.
Coup d'`etat Sudden overthrow of government.
Napoleonic Codes Code of laws commissioned by Napoleon in the 1800, stating all men should be treated as equals.
Napoleonic Wars Series of wars between France and most major European powers due to Napoleon's desire to rule Europe.
Continental System Napoleon's plan to ruin British trade by forbidding France's allies and countries to import British products.
Abdicate Give up a powerful position, especially a throne.
Guerrilla Warfare Type of warfare by small groups of fighters to make surprise attacks.
Quadruple Alliance Alliance formed in the early 1800s by Prussia, Austria, Russia, and Great Britain to prevent France's takeover of Europe.
Battle of Waterloo The battle in 1815 where Napoleon was decisively defeated by European allies.
