eli whitney created the cotton gin and the concept of interchangeable parts.
telegraph sent signals across long distances (like a phone) using morse code.
irish immigrants who worked on canals and railroads. came to america because of the potato famine.
german immigrants that came to the US to settle on farms in the midwest.
emigrant somebody leaving to country

potato famine this was why the irish immigrated to the US. potatoes contracted a disease that killed a large population of the irish settlers.
era of good feelings this happened when james monroe was the president. this was know to be a very peacful time.
american system an economic system (this was created by henry clay). the US economy became more self reliant after this.
henry clay created the american system. he was also the congressman from kentucky.
erie canal connected new york city and the great lakes. this was a man made canal (this means that this was created by hand)
nationalism when somebody is very patriotic or very proud of their COUNTRY
sectionalism when somebody is very patriotic or proud of their NATION
tariff a tax that was created to tax imports
infastructure when a nation had a system of transportation and communication
cotton gin created by eli whitney and removed the seeds from cotton. this used to be a very time consuming job and now the US had a machine to do this. cotton became the cash crop due to this machine.
memphis known as the "cotton capital of the south".
deep south alabama, missippi, louisana, georgia, south carolina, texas
slave codes very strict rules that were passed that forbid many of the slaves rights
spirituals faith songs sung by slaves.
