Sinking of Lusitania 1915 - After Germany declares unrestricted submarine warfare, this ship is sunk. 1,200 die, 128 are Americans. This event becomes an American atrocity.
The Zimmerman Note A note Germany attempted to send to Mexico, asking them to start conflict with the US for supplies and land (New Mexico, Arizona, etc.). Britain intercepted it and showed it to US to influence public opinion.

Battle of The Somme Participants: France (w Canadians), Britain, and Germany Location: Somme, France Victor: Allies, though for no gain Highlights: 1.3 million killed or wounded, one of the bloodiest battles ever

Women In The War They manufactured weapons, became nurses for soldiers, and took up many support roles (clerical, mechanics, communications)
Animals Used In War Many breeds and types of animals, like horses and dogs, were used for things like guarding trenches, finding wounded soldiers and carrying messages.

Impact of The Spanish Flu It quickly spread throughout the trenches, causing them too be o\even more dangerous and deadly for soldiers. It added another layer of complication.
Impact of the Russian Revolution on the war Russia became distracted from the war, and eventually entirely withdrew to deal with the issue

Reasons some Americans did not want to enter the war Many didn't want a war because they believed the US shouldn't get involved with European affairs, many argued over what side they would even join, yet others didn't want a war at all.
