Vocabulary Words/Definitions

QuestionAnswer
Compare/ Comparison Show the similarities in two or more people, things or ideas.
Contrast Show the differences in two or more people, things, or ideas.
Purpose of Writing The author’s intent for writing; to either persuade, inform, or entertain the audience.
Topic A specific issue being discussed.
Historical Discuss history or past events.
Cultural/ Culture Relating to a particular society and its ideas, customs, and art.
Ethnic A race or large group of people who have the same religion and origin.
Synonyms A word or phrase that mean exactly or nearly the same.
Antonyms A word opposite in meaning to another word.
Analogies A comparison between two things, which is comparable to something else.
Summarize Telling the most important parts of a text; in your own words.
Main Idea The author message about the topic.
Purpose of Writing: The author intent for writing something; to either persuade, inform, or entertain the audience.
Persuade to cause someone to do something by asking, arguing,or giving reasons.
Inform communicating factual,relevant, and clear information to your audience.
Entertain holds the attention and interest of an audience.
