Technically, what is measurement? the process of assigning numbers according to rules
What is the intent when measuring? to make the measurement as objective as possible
What does measurement provide? the raw material for evaluation and grading
What does evaluation involve? making a judgment about the adequacy or quality of learning
Does evaluation involve some subjectivity? yes, but the subjectivity is limited by the objective nature of the measurement data
What is a short-hand or symbolic representation of the evaluation? grading
What type of grading is most common? letter grading
What can also be used to represent grades? verbal descriptions, numbers, checklists, etc
What is the key to effective classroom assessment? Do not dissociate classroom assessment from instructional planning and delivery.
What does a good instructional plan include? formative and summative assessment
This type of assessment checks students' and teachers' progress and should NOT be a basis for grading: formative
