Why is it the most frequently used form of pain control? Because its safe, effective, and dependable method of anesthesia duration.
what ingredients does a anesthetic cartridge contain? Local anesthetic drug, sodium chloride, and distilled water.
What are the time spans? Short acting, intermediate, and long acting
How long does each time spans last? Short acting ( 30 minutes), intermediate ( 60 minutes), Long acting (90 minutes).
For local anesthesia to be effective, where does the local anesthetic need to be injected? Into the nerve where treatment is to take place.
What is added to a local anesthetic to prolong its effect? A vasoconstrictor.
What does local anesthesia do? The local anesthetic agent temporary blocks the ability of the nerve membrane to generate an impulse.
What are the chemical groups of local anesthetic solutions for dental ? Amides and esters.
which types of vasocontrictors are used with local anesthetics? Epinephrine, levonordefrin, and Neo - cobefrin
what is typical about the levels of vasoconstrictors? The smaller the ratio, the higher the percentage of vasonconstrictor.
What must happen in order for the doctor to obtain complete anesthesia after the injection? The nerve must be sufficiently permeated by a concentration of the anesthetic base to inhibit conduction in all fibers.
Whats a characteristic of local anesthesia? completely reversible
Why is it important for the dentist to know the time spans of pain control required? Because depending on the type of injection , the type of anesthetic, , amount of anesthetic, and location of the injection will determine the duration of the local anesthesia.
