Balance Biosphere 1

Biosphere part of Earth in which we find life including land, water, and air or atmosphere
Ecosystem all the living and nonliving things that interact in an area
biotic living matter in an ecosystem
abiotic Non-living matter in an ecosystem
Chloroplast organelle found in cells of plants and some other organisms that captures the energy from sunlight and converts it into chemical energy in the process of photosynthesis
Mitochondria An organelle found in large numbers in most cells, whrere respiration - the release of energy occurs.
Population A group of individuals that belong to the same species and live in the same area
Community All the different populations that live together in an area
animal cell does not have a cell wall or chloroplast and a small vacuole
plant cell contains a cell wall, chloroplast and large vacuole
Photosynthesis Plants use the sun's energy to convert water and carbon dioxide into an energy rich molecule, glucose
Respiration The process by which cells break down simple food molecules to release the energy they contain.
Autotroph An organism that makes its own food, also known as a PRODUCER
Heterotroph An organism that cannot make its own food, also known as a CONSUMER
Glucose An energy rich molecule that is a product of photosynthesis and a reactant in respiration
oxygen A by-product of photosynthesis and a reactant for respiration
chlorophyll green pigment contained in chloroplasts of plant cells
