Muscles of ankle & foot movement

QuestionAnswer
ORIGINS=proximal half of the lateral tibial shaft, interosseous membrane INSERTIONS= metatarsal 1, cuneiform 1(plantar surface) ACTIONS=ankle dorsiflexion, foot inversion Tibialis Anterior
This muscle is strenthened after an inversion sprais is healed to aid in rehabilitation. It is referred to as the stirrup muscle along with fibularis longus. Tibialis Anterior
stirrup muscle is comprised of these muscles Tibialis Anterior & Fibularis longus
ORIGINS=inf fibular head, proximal 2/3 of fibular shaft, lateral tibial condyle, interosseus membrane INSERTIONS= middle phalanges of toes 2-5, distal phalanges of toes 2-5 ACTIONS=extends toes 2-5; dorsiflexion of ankle, eversion of foot Extensor Digitorum Longus
ORIGIN=Calcaneus INSERTION=tendons of extensor digitorun longus to toes 2-4 ACTION=extends toes 2-4 Extensor Digitorum Brevis
ORIGINS=ant fibular shaft(middle region), interosseous membrane INSERTION=distal phalanx of the great toe ACTIONS=extends the great toe, ankle dorsiflexion Extensor Hallucis Longus
ORIGINS=fibular head, lat proximal 1/2 of fibular shaft INSERTIONS=metatarsal 1, cuneiform 1(plantar surface) ACTIONS=foor eversion, ankle plantar flexion. AKA peronius longus.one of the 'stirrup muscles'. Fibularis Longus
This muscle's tendon now lies behind the lateral malliolus but orginally lay in front. The latter tendon arrangement is present in predators. Fibularis Longus
ORIGIN=lateral distal 1/2 of fibular shaft INSERTION=metatarsal V ACTIONS=foot eversion, ankle plantar flexion. AKA peroneus brevis. Fibularis Brevis
This muscle's tendon now lies behind the lateral malleolus but originally lay in front. The latter tendon arrangement is present is predators. Fibularis Brevis
comprised of the gastrocnemius, soleus,sometimes plantaris is included. These muscles share a common tendon, aka triceps brachii of the lower extremity. Lift the weight of the body when moving walking/running, make up superficial layer of pos.leg Triceps Surae
ORIGINS=med & lat epicondyle of femur INSERTION=calcaneus via the Achilles tendon ACTIONS=ankle plantar flexion, knee flexion. AKA toe dancer's muscle. plantar flexion/knee flexion aka either-or situation.sometimes origin is found on knee joint capsule Gastrocnemius
ORIGIN=lat epicondyle femur INSERTION=calcaneus via Achilles tendon ACTIONS=ankle plantar flexion, knee flexion. AKA mini-gastrocnemius. may be removed for grafting of tendons of hands due to surgery prn Plantaris
ORIGINS=sup pos 1/3 of fibular shaft, soleal line of tibia INSERTION=calcaneus via Achilles tendon ACTION=ankle plantar flexion. resembles the sole fish Soleus
ORIGINS=pos tibial shaft,pos fibular shaft,interosseous membrane INSERTIONS=tuberosity of navicular,cuneiform 1,2,3, cuboid,calcaneus,navicular,bases of metatarsals 2,3,4 ACTIONS=foot inversion,ankle plantar flexion.may be absent Tibialis Posterior
ORIGIN=pos tibial shaft-middle region INSERTIONS=distal phalanges 2-5(plantar surface) ACTIONS=flexes toes 2-5 @ DIP, PIP & MP joints, ankle plantar flexion, foot inversion Flexor Digitorum Longus
ORIGINS=pos fibular shaft-middle region,interosseus membrane INSERTION=distal phalanx of great toe(plantar surface) ACTIONS=big toe flexion,ankle plantar flexion,foot inversion,supports longitudinal arch Flexor Hallucis Longus
tailor's muscle sartorius
hamstring that attaches to the fibular head biceps femoris
quadriceps femoris muscle that crosses 2 joints rectus femoris
muscle that initiates walking iliopsoas
largest outward rotator of the hip piriformis
strongest extender of the hip gluteus maximus
hamstring that is also part of the pes anserinus semitendinosus
adductor that forms the letter V with the femoral shaft gracilis
mini-gastrocnemius; missing in approximately 10% of cadavers plantaris
muscle that dorsiflexes the ankle & inverts the foot tibialis anterior
muscle the plantar flexes the ankle & everts the foot fibularis longus
muscle described as the key that unlocks the knee popliteus
muscle of plantar flexion that attaches below the knee joint soleus
toe dancer's muscle gastrocnemius
adductor muscle that attaches to the linea aspera & the adductor tubercle adductor magnus
