Socialization process | the process by which one learns a social role in groups with certain values, morals, and rules. |
Sex | refers to biological characteristics used to determine whether individuals are classified as male or female. |
Gender | refers to culturally defined sociological characteristics used to differentiate between males and females. |
Gender typing | or gender-role stereotyping, occurs when a parent or significant other encourages activities that are deemed “gender appropriate.” |
Significant others or socializing agents | are family members, peers, teachers, coaches, and others who are involves in the socialization process of an individual. |
Stereotype threat | is the experience of being at risk of confronting to stereotypes, usually negative, related to a racial, ethnic, gender, or cultural group. |
